Why do people leave the church? In this video, Matt Chandler talks about those who grew up in a church where they were told, "Do this! Don't do that!" That brand of religion does not transform and eventually people will walk away from the church because after white-knuckled discipline they achieve the stated moral standards but then something goes wrong in their lives...their spouse leaves them...their parents divorce. The mindset then becomes..."I was good and this is how you repay me?" They were sold the idea that, "This is how you put God in your debt."
